Why I write

To quote everyone’s favorite orphan, it’s a “hard-knock life,” but “the sun’ll come out tomorrow.” Sometimes we just need people who acknowledge life’s hardness and remind us to look for the sunrise.

I’ve felt especially blessed by the written words of many creative people serving up that reminder. My reading interests are eclectic, from C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien to Joni Eareckson Tada to John Steinbeck and Shakespeare.

The possibility of being a link in the chain of written blessings motivates my writing, so I think the best answer to the question "Why do I write?" is "Why do you read?"

You’re most likely to enjoy my writing if...

  • You want to believe there’s a God whose love is trustworthy and whose guidance is best.
  • You understand that believing and trusting in God can be hard and made easier by good fellowship.
  • You enjoy beauty, humor, and fiction, and you also appreciate deep ponderings and fresh perspectives on biblical truths.
